Jaw Reconstruction and Rehabilitation

Maxillofacial prosthodontics is a sub-specialty of prosthodontics that is concerned with the maxillofacial reconstruction and oral rehabilitation of persons who have lost oral and/or facial structures as a result of cancer, trauma or were born with missing structures.

iRSM has been a pioneer in the field of surgical reconstruction and rehabilitation of jaw defects as a result of head and neck cancer and trauma.  The maxillofacial prosthodontic work being carried out is surgically driven. The majority of oral and maxillofacial rehabilitation are carried out with osseointegrated implants which are planned in a digital environment.

iRSM has been in the forefront of innovations in advanced jaw reconstruction and with the advent of pioneering surgical and prosthodontic planning utilizing surgical design and simulation have been able to reduce the management pathway for some patients to around 1 to 2 years.

Head and neck cancer patient management fall into one of four treatment pathways:
The maxillofacial prosthodontists at iRSM work in close cooperation with head and neck surgeons, maxillofacial surgeons, plastic surgeons, speech-language pathologists, anaplastologists, surgical design simulationists, osseointegration technologists, dental hygienists and registered dental assistants in the care of our patients.
